Pastoral Care

At Church Hill, providing children with excellent pastoral care is a key priority. Our role is to remove barriers which might prevent children from feeling safe, happy and achieving their potential. We want all our children to be in a position to thrive.

Through our pastoral provision we aim to:

  • Ensure all children are safe and healthy
  • Promote the emotional well being and mental health of all children.
  • Ensure all children make a positive contribution.
  • Support parents to support their children.
  • Support identified children to deal with anxieties and problems in and out of school.
  • Ensure children are enjoying and achieving at school.
  • Improve attendance and punctuality.
  • Supporting identified children with their behaviour.

 How do we do it?

This will be tailored to the individual child and their family situation but we may do any of the following:

  • 1:1 interventions
  • Whole class or small group interventions.
  • Refer to agencies which may help.
  • Informal check ins e.g. at the start of the day to help a pupil settle in and make the transition into school.
  • Direct work with families.
  • Facilitating parent groups.

We also

  • Run a wide range of lunch clubs and after school clubs to support pupils’ wellbeing.
  • Have a school dogs called Marvin and a weekly visit from a trained Therapy Dog, who can support pupils
  • Advocate for parents and children by signposting to help and liaising with external agencies to support with issues such as debt and housing concerns.
